Trier of fact

The person or body responsible for determining the facts in a legal dispute, based on the evidence presented during a trial. In a jury trial, the jury serves as the trier of fact, while in a bench trial, the judge fulfills this role. The trier of fact evaluates witness credibility and weighs the evidence to establish what actually happened.
