A body established to adjudicate specific types of disputes, operating outside the traditional court system. Tribunals possess judicial or quasi-judicial powers and are created to handle matters requiring specialized knowledge, such as administrative law, employment disputes, or tax issues. Unlike a court of general jurisdiction, a tribunal's authority is limited by statute to a particular subject area, and its procedures are typically less formal.
