Ultimate fact

A fact that is the final conclusion reached by applying rules of law to the basic or evidentiary facts presented in a legal case. It represents the ultimate issue to be decided by the trier of fact, such as whether a defendant was negligent or whether a contract was breached. Ultimate facts are distinct from evidentiary facts, which are the raw data used to prove the ultimate facts.
