Probative facts

Facts that, when proven, tend to establish the existence or non-existence of an ultimate fact in issue in a legal case. These are the underlying pieces of evidence that support a larger conclusion. For example, a witness's testimony about seeing a defendant at a crime scene is a probative fact.
