A controlled environment used in intellectual property law to develop new software or hardware without infringing on existing copyrights or trade secrets. Independent programmers or engineers, who have not been exposed to the protected code, create a new version based solely on functional specifications. This method aims to prove that the new product was developed independently and not copied.
