To systematically arrange and collect laws, rules, or regulations into a formal written code. This process transforms disparate sources of law, such as common law precedents, statutes, and customs, into a single, organized body of legislation that is easier to access and apply. The United States Code, for example, is a codification of the general and permanent laws of the United States, organized into 54 titles based on subject matter.
