Comprehensive Crime Control Act of 1984

A federal statute that brought about major reforms in the United States federal criminal justice system. Its provisions included abolishing federal parole, creating a new federal sentencing structure under the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and establishing new procedures for civil and criminal forfeiture of assets derived from illegal activities. The act also increased penalties for drug trafficking and firearm offenses and introduced preventative detention for defendants deemed a danger to the community.
