Concealed carry

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-001143

The practice of carrying a handgun or other weapon in public in a way that others cannot see, usually under clothing or in a bag. State law governs it, and the rules run from permitless carry in a majority of states to permit systems with training and background check requirements. Since the Supreme Court's 2022 decision in Bruen, a state cannot make a permit depend on showing a special need for self-defense.
