Vega v. Tekoh (2022)

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005143

A United States Supreme Court case that held that a violation of the Miranda warnings requirement does not, by itself, provide a basis for a civil rights claim under 42 U.S.C. § 1983. The Court clarified that Miranda warnings establish a prophylactic rule, not a constitutional right in itself. This decision limits the ability to sue police officers for failing to provide Miranda warnings.
