Custodial interrogation

The questioning of a suspect by law enforcement officers after that person has been taken into custody or otherwise deprived of their freedom of action in any meaningful way. This situation triggers the requirement for Miranda warnings, informing the suspect of their right to remain silent and right to an attorney. Statements made without these warnings may be inadmissible in court.
