Miranda rule

A legal principle requiring that criminal suspects in police custody be informed of their constitutional rights before interrogation. These rights include the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney. Statements made by a suspect without first receiving these warnings are generally inadmissible in court, as established by the U.S. Supreme Court.
