Custodial parent

The parent with whom a child primarily lives and who has the legal right and responsibility to make day-to-day decisions regarding the child's upbringing. This designation is established through a court order or parental agreement following a divorce or separation. The custodial parent often receives child support payments from the non-custodial parent.
