Proper cause

A legitimate and fair reason for taking a particular action, especially in employment law for terminating an employee. This standard requires an employer to demonstrate that their decision was based on valid business reasons or employee misconduct, rather than arbitrary or discriminatory motives. Collective bargaining agreements often define what constitutes proper cause for disciplinary actions.
