An individual who gives sworn testimony under oath outside of a courtroom during a discovery proceeding known as a deposition. The deponent answers oral questions posed by attorneys, and their testimony is recorded by a court reporter. This recorded testimony is preserved in a written transcript that can be used to support motions or as evidence at trial.
