Design patent

A form of legal protection granted for a new, original, and ornamental design for an article of manufacture. Unlike a utility patent, which protects the way an article is used and works, a design patent protects only its appearance or aesthetic features. This type of patent is granted for a term of 15 years from the date of grant and does not require maintenance fees.
