Emancipation

The legal process by which a minor is freed from the control of their parents or guardians and assumes the rights and responsibilities of an adult before reaching the age of majority. This typically occurs through a court order, marriage, or military service, depending on state law. An emancipated minor can enter into contracts, sue, and be sued in their own name.
