Fiduciary duty

A legal obligation of one party to act in the best interest of another party. The party owing the duty, the fiduciary, must exercise loyalty, care, and good faith in all dealings. This duty arises in relationships of trust and confidence, such as between an attorney and client, or a guardian and ward.
