An individual legally entitled to inherit property from a deceased person under the laws of intestacy, when there is no valid will. The order of inheritance is typically determined by statutes of descent and distribution, prioritizing spouses, children, and other close relatives. An heir differs from a beneficiary, who inherits property through a will or trust.
