Disinherit

To intentionally prevent an heir, who would otherwise be entitled to inherit, from receiving property from an estate. This action is typically accomplished through a clear statement in a valid will or trust, explicitly excluding the individual from inheriting. Most jurisdictions require specific language to disinherit a direct heir, such as a child or spouse, to avoid challenges to the will.
