Expectancy

A mere hope or prospect of receiving property later, such as an heir's chance of inheriting from a living relative, which the law does not treat as a property right. The prospective heir has no claim if the owner sells the property or changes the will. In contrast, a vested remainder is an existing, enforceable future interest.
