Disinheritance

The act of preventing an heir from receiving property that would normally be passed to them through inheritance. This is usually accomplished by an express provision in a will, stating that a particular individual is not to receive any portion of the estate. Laws regarding spousal and child inheritance rights can limit the extent of disinheritance.
