Slayer rule

A legal principle that prevents an individual who unlawfully and intentionally kills another person from inheriting property or receiving benefits from the victim's estate. This rule is based on the equitable notion that a wrongdoer should not profit from their crime. Many states have codified this rule into their probate laws.
