Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-004285

A remedy that seeks to restore a person to the position they were in before a loss or injury, or to disgorge unjust enrichment from a wrongdoer. It is distinct from compensation for damages, as its focus is on the defendant's gain rather than the plaintiff's loss. In criminal cases, a court can order a convicted defendant to pay restitution to the victim for financial losses resulting from the crime.
