Money damages

A monetary award ordered by a court to compensate a plaintiff for a loss or injury caused by the defendant's wrongful act. These damages are intended to restore the injured party to the position they would have been in had the wrong not occurred. They can include compensatory damages for actual losses and, in some cases, punitive damages to punish the defendant.
