Unjust enrichment

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005097

A legal principle where one person has unfairly benefited at the expense of another without a legal justification. This occurs when a party receives money or property that rightfully belongs to someone else, creating an obligation to return it. Courts apply this doctrine to prevent one party from being unjustly enriched by another's loss, even in the absence of a contract.
