Equitable lien

A right granted by a court of equity to have a demand satisfied from a particular fund or specific property, even without physical possession. This lien arises by operation of law to prevent unjust enrichment or to enforce an agreement, rather than through a formal security agreement. It provides a claimant with a security interest in property when legal remedies are inadequate.
