Probate estate

The total value of all assets owned solely by a deceased person at the time of their death that are subject to the probate process. This includes property that does not pass directly to beneficiaries through other legal arrangements, such as joint tenancy or designated beneficiaries. Assets held in a living trust are generally not part of the probate estate.
