Legal arrangements that transfer property upon death outside of the probate process, effectively bypassing the need for a will to distribute those specific assets. These mechanisms allow for the direct transfer of assets to designated beneficiaries upon the owner's death. Common examples include living trusts, joint tenancy with right of survivorship, and payable-on-death accounts.
