Survivorship

The right of a person to succeed to an interest in property upon the death of another person who held the same interest. This principle is a key feature of joint tenancy and tenancy by the entirety, where the deceased owner's share automatically passes to the surviving owner(s). It avoids the need for probate for that specific property.
