Right of survivorship

A legal characteristic of certain co-ownership arrangements, such as joint tenancy, where a deceased owner's interest automatically passes to the surviving co-owner(s) without the need for probate. This right overrides any provisions in the deceased owner's will. It is a defining feature of joint tenancy and tenancy by the entirety, distinguishing them from tenancy in common.
