Slavery

A system where individuals are treated as property and are forced to work without pay, under threat of violence, and are deprived of their basic human rights and freedoms. This practice was legally abolished in the United States by the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution. Modern forms of slavery, such as human trafficking, persist globally.
