Indian country

Territory within the United States where federal and tribal laws generally apply, rather than state laws. This designation includes all land within the boundaries of an Indian reservation, dependent Indian communities, and all Indian allotments where the title has not been extinguished. The legal definition is codified in 18 U.S.C. § 1151.
