Inequity

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002618

A condition of unfairness or injustice in a legal context, particularly where the strict application of a law would lead to a harsh or unconscionable result. Courts of equity were developed to provide remedies, such as injunctions or specific performance, when monetary damages available in courts of law were inadequate. Inequity is distinct from inequality, as it focuses on a lack of fairness in process or outcome rather than a simple disparity.
