Chancery

A court of equity, historically separate from common law courts, that administered justice based on principles of fairness and conscience. These courts provided remedies not available at common law, such as specific performance or injunctions. In many modern legal systems, the distinction between law and equity courts has been abolished, with courts exercising both types of jurisdiction.
