Unclean hands

An equitable defense that bars relief to a plaintiff whose own wrongful or unethical conduct relates directly to the subject of the claim. It rests on the maxim that one who comes into equity must come with clean hands. Courts generally apply it to equitable remedies such as injunctions and specific performance rather than to claims for money damages at law.
