Insanity defense

A legal strategy in criminal cases where the defendant argues that they should not be held criminally liable for their actions due to a severe mental disease or defect. This defense asserts that the defendant lacked the capacity to understand the nature of their conduct or to know that it was wrong. The M'Naghten rule is a common standard used to evaluate this defense.
