Model Penal Code insanity defense

A legal defense asserting that a defendant is not criminally responsible for their conduct if, at the time of the offense, as a result of mental disease or defect, they lacked substantial capacity either to appreciate the criminality of their conduct or to conform their conduct to the requirements of law. This standard is broader than the M'Naghten Rule. It is adopted in many U.S. jurisdictions.
