Model Penal Code

A set of proposed criminal statutes developed by the American Law Institute, intended to serve as a guide for states revising their criminal laws. It provides a systematic framework for defining crimes and defenses, and for determining sentencing. While not binding law, many states have adopted portions or principles of the Model Penal Code into their own criminal codes.
