Criminal insanity

A legal defense asserting that a defendant should not be held criminally responsible for their actions due to a mental disease or defect at the time of the offense. This condition must prevent the defendant from understanding the nature of their actions or knowing that their actions were wrong. The M'Naghten Rule and the irresistible impulse test are common standards for evaluating this defense.
