Joyriding

The unauthorized taking of another person's motor vehicle for a short period, without the owner's consent and without the intent to permanently keep it. This act is distinguished from larceny or grand theft auto by the temporary nature of the taking and the intent to return the vehicle or abandon it. In many jurisdictions, joyriding is classified as a misdemeanor, but charges can be elevated to a felony if the vehicle is damaged or if someone is injured during the act.
