Letter of request

A formal communication from a court in one country to a court in another country, requesting judicial assistance in obtaining evidence or serving documents. These letters, also known as letters rogatory, are used when direct compulsion of witnesses or parties across borders is not possible. They are governed by international conventions like the Hague Evidence Convention.
