Libel

A defamatory statement published in a permanent form, such as writing, pictures, or broadcasts, that harms a person's reputation. To prove libel, the plaintiff must show that the statement was false, published, caused harm, and was made with fault. Unlike slander, libel does not require proof of special damages in many cases.
