Innuendo
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-002646
An indirect or subtle remark, hint, or insinuation, especially one that is derogatory or has a defamatory implication. In the law of defamation, an innuendo is the part of a complaint that explains how a statement with a seemingly innocent meaning is actually defamatory because of extrinsic facts known to the audience. For a claim to succeed, the plaintiff must prove that a third party understood the statement's hidden, defamatory meaning.
