Par-value stock

Shares of corporate stock that have a specific nominal or face value assigned to them in the company's articles of incorporation. This value represents the minimum price at which the stock can be initially sold by the corporation. Issuing stock below its par value can create liability for the shareholders in some jurisdictions.
