Pendent party jurisdiction
Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-005406
The authority of a federal court to hear claims against parties over whom it would not ordinarily have jurisdiction, provided those claims arise from the same common nucleus of operative fact as claims properly before the court. This concept was largely superseded by the enactment of 28 U.S.C. § 1367, which codified supplemental jurisdiction.
