Pendent jurisdiction

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-003695

The authority of a federal court to hear a state law claim that arises from the same 'common nucleus of operative fact' as a federal question claim already before the court. This doctrine allows federal courts to resolve an entire controversy in a single proceeding. It is now largely subsumed under the concept of supplemental jurisdiction.
