Concurrent jurisdiction

The authority of more than one court to hear the same type of case. This situation arises when both federal and state courts have the power to adjudicate a dispute, or when multiple state courts can hear a matter. For instance, a plaintiff can choose to file a case in either a state or federal court if diversity of citizenship and a sufficient amount in controversy exist.
