The monetary value of the relief sought or the damages claimed in a lawsuit. This figure is a key factor in determining whether a court has subject matter jurisdiction, particularly in federal courts where diversity jurisdiction requires the amount to exceed a specific threshold. For U.S. federal courts, this threshold is currently set at $75,000.
