Ancestor

A person from whom one is descended, such as a parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent. In legal contexts, particularly in inheritance law, an ancestor is a person from whom property is inherited. The concept is central to determining lines of succession and kinship for purposes of intestacy statutes.
