Aggregation of jurisdictional amount

Term · Law · MLC-T-LAW-000446

The combining of multiple claims or the claims of multiple parties to meet the minimum monetary threshold required for a court to hear a case, particularly in federal diversity jurisdiction. This allows plaintiffs with individually small claims to collectively satisfy the jurisdictional amount. Rules for aggregation vary, often permitting a single plaintiff to aggregate multiple claims against one defendant, or multiple plaintiffs to aggregate claims arising from a common undivided interest.
